Using Traumastem Biodress and Traumastem Biodress Disinfect in Wound Treatment

Traumastem Biodress is a sterile, resorbable dressing from natural oxidised cellulose. It is a modern dressing for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds (chronic leg ulcerations, press ulcers, burns, traumas, etc.). Traumastem Biodress is a sterile, resorbable dressing from natural oxidised cellulose. It is a modern dressing for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds (chronic leg ulcerations, press ulcers, burns, traumas, etc.). The dressing helps granulation and ephitalisation of the wound and already after 2 weeks the wound area is reduced, i.e. with leg ulcers. Traumastem Biodress ensures optimally a favourable moist microclimate and decreases the pain. It inactivates matrix-metalloproteinases and accelerates the healing, participates in reducing of ions loss from the wound and reduces purulent secretion. It has significant antibacterial effect, is fully biodegradable and it is fully resorbed within 48 – 72 hours at the latest, depending on volume of exudate in the wound. It is fully eliminated from the organism without any side effects. Thanks to its full absorbency is atraumatic. It does not cause any undesirable immune reaction or sensitiveness after repeated use and is hypoallergenic.

Traumastem Biodress Disinfect is a resorbable, bioactive dressing for the treatment of infected, non-healing chronic wounds. It contains antimicrobial substance chlorhexidine 0.2 – 0.5% by weight, which reduces a bacterial load and stimulated the healing process. Due to this composition, Traumastem Biodress Disinfect is suitable for the treatment of infected, non-healing, chronic wounds. By its ability to inhibit matrix-metalloproteinases, to activate fibroblasts and to increase quantity of growth factors, it significantly influences metabolic and biochemical processes in the wound and remodelling of damaged tissue.

Chlorhexidine is a chemical antiseptic killing a wide spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. By the interaction of antimicrobial and bioactive dressings the microbial load is reduced and it comes to cleansing of the wound base, starting and accelerating of granulation and ephitalisation process. Moreover, Traumastem Biodress Disinfect reduces the wound foetor and thereby improves the quality of patient´s life before the wound is completely healed. With respect to haemostatic effect, Traumastem Biodress Disinfect is suitable to stop bleeding of infected or differently contaminated wounds, both acute and chronic.

We use both preparations in home care area, mainly in chronic wounds treatment. Traumastem Biodress in combination with Hyiodine proved successful in the treatment of deep, heavily exuding wounds. A young client, confined to wheelchair, suffering from decubitus in sacral area reaching under ischial bones, had a decreased purulent secretion and significant granulation in the decubitus. There were a couple of unsuccessful attempts of the treatment by plastic operation, but the wound was bleeding repeatedly. During rebandages, thanks to Traumastem Biodress, the bleeding stopped. The wounds were redressed once in 48 hours and Traumastem Biodress was fully resorbed. A cleansing and partial healing of the decubitus occurred within 4 weeks. Finally plastic surgeons solved the treatment by skin transplantation and the treatment was successful.

Traumastem Biodress Disinfect was indicated with a female patient with a chronic, dehiscent wound in groin area, of size 5cm, 3cm deep. The wound base was contaminated; there was an adhering bacterial rating. We injected Hyiodine to the wound and then a tamponade formed from Traumastem Biodress Disinfect was used. These rebandages were performed every other day. After 11 days, when the risk of product resistance can arise, we redressed the wound with Traumastem Biodress only. After one month, there was a significant granulation of a tissue and Traumastem Biodress stopped absorbing to the wound. We continue only with Hyiodine. The whole time of the healing is 2 month. Before that, the patient had been treated for about 11 months.
